Using Sporangium for solo games
Many have pointed out to me that Sporangium could be used as a tool for solo roleplaying, and I totally agree! The book includes a one-page oracle and some other neat tools like Campfire Tales and various tables. Also, creating a moss-world to explore feels like something that should work very well in a solo game. Below is a small guide on the steps to follow to get started.
1: Find a World
The first step is exactly as described in Chapter 1. Take a photo of moss (or lichen if you prefer), trace it onto paper, and give it a name.
2: The setup
Here, I suggest going through the steps outlined in Chapters 2 and 3, skipping step 6 (secrets) and step 8 (potential scenes).
3: Start playing
By now, you should have a world map, a trouble, some avalanches (fronts/factions), and one or more PCs. Start with a dramatic scene, as described in step 7 (Set the Ball in Motion), and see what happens.
4: The oracle
f you have a question that you would normally ask your GM, you can use the Oracle on page 34. It features three tables that can be used together or separately, as you see fit. One way to use it is to roll 3d20, one for each table, and combine the results. For example: Q: What happens? A: A secret is revealed Q: Can you tell me more? A: Beneath Q: How bad is it? A: A significant threat
Campfire tales
Use Campfire Tales (page 33) to flesh out PCs’ backgrounds and relationships during downtime. This can be a way to expand on events leading up to the current adventure.
I hope this gives you some inspiration, and I wish you many hours of dramatic fantasy adventures!
